In the highest position stands the figure of the Virgin Mary, with hands joined and looking upwards, on an open flower arising from an urn-shaped vase. This in turn rests on a cloud formation symbolizing the sky from which emerge the heads of small angels. The second sculptural group of four female figures in an attitude of worship stand on a lower plane. They represent the four continents: Europe, Africa, Asia and America, in an allusion to the missionary spirit that inspired the Discoveries.
