A rectangular sampler constituted by a figurative needlepoint tableau embroidered in polychromatic silk thread and coloured beads, on white silk. It depicts a scene from daily life in which a couple of sweethearts is framed by a border of flowers.

This type of work was very common on the 19th century, especially during the Romantic period, as a way of occupying the spare-time of many girls and women. Revealing both manual dexterity and patience, it was probably inspired by an engraving, being entitled: “VERFÜHRUNG” (Seduction). On the lower part the artist embroidered her signature, Rosina Adelaide Aguiar Martins, and the date of execution – 1869.
